Poster analysis (Miss. Holliday)

This image above is promoting Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The lighting of this image is very bright and can be considered as an under light as it is focused around Snow Whites face and the blood red apple however the image also uses high key lighting from the top half of the image which then gradually becomes dull in the bottom left corner. This connotes that an event will take place involving the evil looking witch that may well cast evil upon Snow White through the apple. The dwarfs look very happy and are dressed in bright colours that connote, all of them put together may well be Snow Whites saviours. The use of bright colours foreshadow that the film will be full of joy and a typical fairy tale.

The composition of Snow White is centralised and much larger in size where as in comparison to the other characters, they are much smaller in size and only use a small area of the image implying the story will be based around Snow White. On the other hand the composition of the seven dwarfs at the bottom right of the page almost show as if they look up to Snow White as someone they love. However where the witch stands in the bottom left connotes evil, as she is distanced apart from both Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The witch also stands beneath the deep red apple which show the witch and apple are representations of evil.

There is no particular setting for this image as the sparkles denote it is taking place in a dream or fairy tale wonder land which also connote the themes of the film which are, love, magic, evil and deception. The reason for why the themes are as such, is because the image is set out as if it is telling the story, which then compels the audience to go and watch the film as they would want to know what exactly happens. Moving on, the image also sets the genre of Romance, suspense, mystery and fairy tale through the use of colours, positioning of characters, lighting, facial expressions etc...

Snow White poses staring at the apple, as if there has been a spell cast upon her and is tempted to bite into it. This demonstrates what will cause the unfortunate event and connotes evil.

The mise-en-scene is as if it were a point of view shot (p.o.v) where we as the audience are looking directly at Snow White. Looking at the image, it implies the audience of this film are youngsters around the age of 5-17.

Overall i would see this image as a highly effective media piece, as it is able to connote clear messages with the use of so little text...
