What film genres are the most popular at present?

The most popular genres according to me today are; Comedy/Romance/Thriller and Sci–Fi.

Why do you think this is?

Sci-Fi – because technology has increased drastically and Sci-Fi films are now edited with a high standard where each scene seems realistic, also it shows potential on what could happen with improvements in science.

Thriller- because they excite the audience and have become very popular over the years, as the editing has improved making films more realistic allowing it to appeal to a wider range of audiences

Romance- this is popular as it relates to everyone. Love is something every human is bound to experience, whether it is through relationships such as; parental love, love for your spouse, civil partnerships, love for friends etc...

Comedy- because it is very entertaining, and allows everyone to get rid of their tension and stress whilst enjoying a comedy.

What genres do you think were popular back in the 1930’s and 1940’s?

Horror and Comedy. - The reason for this is because slapsticks were very popular back then, and therefore lead audiences enjoying films based on comedy. However horror films may have been popular as every human is bound to be scared of something, and horror is a genre which again excites its audience and grips their attention.
